Music News

From Principal Lynn Dole's September 12, 2015 Newsletter:

High School Music News from Mr. Halligan:
This will be another exciting year for Music at Mohawk! Mrs. Clark and I have lots of great concerts and events planned, including the Winter and Spring Concerts, Junior and Senior Districts, the MICCA Festival, a trip to New York City to see a show on Broadway, and a trip to Annapolis, Maryland in April for high school band and chorus members. Our chapter of Tri-M, the National Music Honors Society is also actively planning activities and fundraisers. This is a great year to be involved in Mohawk Music!

Evening Chorus – Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
On Wednesday evenings, Mr. Halligan is offering an additional Chorus class. If your student can't fit chorus into their schedule, this is for them! Evening Chorus bears one credit per semester, and students who enroll are eligible to participate in all Music Department concerts and events. The “Evening Chorus” combines with the “Day Chorus” for performances. The high school chorus can always use more voices - especially young men's voices! No experience is necessary, and the more the merrier! It's a friendly environment where students all learn to make music together.
Students who decide to enroll in Evening Chorus will also be eligible to participate in the trip to Annapolis, Maryland in April to perform in the Worldstrides Heritage Exhibition Festival.

Select Chorus – Rehearsal Schedule
Select Chorus rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm.

Mandatory Music Meeting – Tuesday, September 15, 6:30pm in the Auditorium*
The Mohawk Music Association and I are holding a mandatory meeting for students in the High School Band and Chorus programs and their parents/guardians on Tuesday, September 15th, at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
Students will be fitted for their concert attire at this time.  We will not have an “in school” attire fitting this year, so every student in Band and Chorus must be present at this meeting!  Students and parents will also fill out and sign a contract regarding concert attire.
Parents will receive important information about this year’s calendar of events, including the Band and Chorus trip to Annapolis, Maryland.  My expectation is that 100% of band and chorus students participate in this important trip, which is an integral part of our curriculum.  The Music Department and the MMA are committed to working with families as much as possible to make this expectation of 100% participation feasible for everyone.  We will discuss details of the trip, the cost, and available scholarships at this meeting.  Please contact me with any questions:

Choirs Perform at Open House – Thursday, September 17, 6:15-6:30pm
Come early to Open House next Thursday to hear the Middle School Chorus and High School Select Chorus perform in the foyer. These groups are off to a very good start this year – and the acoustics in the foyer will take your breath away! Later that evening, please stop by the music room (freshly painted!) and say hello!

Car Wash Fundraiser – Wednesday, September 23, 1:00-4:30pm
Need a Car Wash? Come to our Car Wash Fundraiser on Wednesday, September 23! From 1:00-4:30pm, Mohawk High School Music Students will be washing cars and trucks and accepting donations to support the Music Department! This event is being organized by the Mohawk Chapter of Tri-M, the National Music Honors Society.
