“ THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.” Hilltown Youth Summer Theater Workshop, attended by 54 students, concludes with performances
Friday, Saturday and Sunday*Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at 7 p.m., in the outdoor fields of the Academy at Charlemont on Route 2. Free. This is the sixth year for the summer drama program, headed by Drama Coach/Director Jonathan Diamond of Heath. The program accepts students from all schools, from age 11 to 18. The performance tells the story four siblings whisked out of London during the blitz bombing of World War II to a country house, where, while playing hide-and-seek, they discover Narnia — an unknown world that opens to them from a wardrobe in the home.
Also from today's Greenfield Recorder, page A1:
Co-directed by Jonathan Diamond and Rachel Silverman, many guest performers and teachers came to the summer program, to coach students and help in the production. They include Mohawk Music Director Scott Halligan, Academy at Charlemont Music Director Dave Chalfant, Dance and Movement Instructor Felice Wolfzahn, Henna and Makeup Artist Kelly Flaherty, Set Designers Rachel Silverman and Laura Iveson, Costumes by Carin, SeriousPlay! Theatre Ensemble, Chrysalis Theatre, Double Edge Theatre and others from the performing arts community.
In the first week, students literally “learned the ropes” — flying as they worked on trapezes and aerial arts with Arlie Hart of Pathfinder Rigging of Brattleboro, Vt.They also learned to work together as a community, how to do stage combat, and how to move as an actor, on an outdoor stage — a huge and hilly, grassy field in which the actors and audience will move from scene to scene in this weekend’s production of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”
