Trailer Park, the Pioneer Valley’s premier party band, will be performing at Mohawk Trail Regional High School in a special benefit concert for the Mohawk Music Association on November 7. Mohawk has a special connection with Trailer Park, which was co-founded by alumnus Tom Mahnken, and this will be the band’s third appearance at the school in recent years.

“I was very involved in the music program, playing in the jazz band and concert band and in several school musicals,” Mahnken said in an interview with the Recorder last January. “I loved all my music time at Mohawk. It gave me a lot of opportunities in different types of music. A lot of exploring! I welcome the opportunity to give a little back.”

“One of the goals of this event is to connect these seasoned professionals with the next generation of aspiring musicians,” says Mohawk High School Music Director Scott Halligan. Students in Halligan’s Rock Band class will perform in the first half of the concert.

Trailer Park’s involvement with the music program at Mohawk in recent years has made an impact on students. “My students learn a lot from them, their professionalism, their musicianship, the whole vibe they create for the audience,” says Halligan. “This is a band that’s been successful together for 20 years now, so we’re trying to figure out their secret sauce.”

Halligan teaches a Rock Band class that has become a very popular choice for students. “It was originally a guitar class,” he says. “But then I saw what Dave Chalfant was doing at the Academy [at Charlemont] with student rock bands, and I got inspired to try it at Mohawk.” Students enrolled in the course learn to play guitar, bass, and drums, and perform in two to three concerts during the semester.

Proceeds of this concert go to the Mohawk Music Association, which supports students in Mohawk’s dynamic, high-achieving music program.

The concert will be held in the Mohawk High School Auditorium on Friday, November 7, at 7pm. Tickets available at the door: $10 adults, $5 children, Mohawk Students FREE. Proceeds benefit the Mohawk Music Association. Concessions will be available in the lobby.
