Director Shelley Roberts shares The Wizard of Oz updates in Principal Lynn Dole's January 20, 2014 Newsletter:
cast and crew of The Wizard of Oz have experienced two weeks of
rehearsals! Everyone has been working really hard and showing up with
great attitudes! If we keep working this hard for the next few weeks
it’s going to be a great show!
On Wednesday, January 15,
2014 our 5th and 6th grade friends from the elementary schools joined
us for a full cast number. The full cast number we worked on was the
Munchkinland Sequence, which is Act 1, scenes 6 & 7 when Dorothy
first comes to Oz. There were A LOT of students on the stage and we had
a lot of blocking to learn!
I was so impressed at how fast they
learned the material and how awesome they were to work with! Keep up
the good work everyone!
Behind the scenes, on Tuesday, January 14
we held a very productive stage crew meeting! I’m super excited to have
an enthusiastic, creative team on board! In addition to the student
stage crew members we have a lot of teacher and parent support too!
Mohawk school nurse Michelle LaRocque is our sets and props leader.
Seventh grade teacher Sean Conlon is our lights and mics extraordinaire.
Mohawk Technology Specialist Virginia Wiswell has jumped on board too!
Parent Barb Harris has offered to help lead the way with makeup and
parent Maryellen Abbatiello is our hair stylist. Eighth grade teacher
Jana Purington, and parents Kei Malone and Shauna Deatly have offered to
help with costumes. Retired Mohawk District Music Educator Eva Otten
has started coming to rehearsals to help with blocking and music!
Choreographer Kim Williams came in and choreographed the Jitterbug and
it was so fun! Middle school music teacher Gina Glover has been a
terrific help with the 5th & 6th graders and Mohawk Music Director
Scott Halligan is our wonderful music director! The Mohawk Music
Association is taking care of concessions for the shows.
All of these
people have reached out to me to offer their help. The goal for this
production is to have parents and teachers mentor ultimately the
students are doing everything to make this show happen. All of the
people I’ve mentioned have a coterie of students ready to help but we
always welcome more help. If you are a student, parent, teacher or
community member and want to help please send me an email expressing
your interest! We want you to come and join the fun!
also want to take a moment to thank Facilities/Transportation Manager
Robin Pease, the elementary school principals, Mohawk Principal Lynn
Dole, and Superintendent Michael Buoniconti for making transportation
accessible for the elementary school students to make it to rehearsals!
It was a group effort and I appreciate it and I know the students do
All the best,
Producer/Director All-School Musical
