2013 Year End Update

As we balance on the edge, last year fading into shadow, next year bright with opportunity, let's pause to reflect on where we've been and where we are going.

From Mohawk Music Association's Facebook page:

A huge thank you once again to all who supported the Mohawk Music Association and our school district's children in any of the many, many ways possible to do so.

We'd like to tell you just how well we did on Valley Gives Day, but we don't have a final total yet. While the website reports online donations of $930, we have had some additional checks trickle in from people who wanted to participate but didn't or couldn't log in on 12/12. The good news is, it's not too late to make a charitable contribution for 2013! We are a 501c3 nonprofit so all donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made right here on our facebook page (look for the blue elephant), or on our website http://www.mohawkmusicassociation.org/ where we have a paypal button at the very bottom of the page. Checks can be mailed or delivered in person either to the school (we finally have our own mailbox there!) or to our treasurer, Emily Robertson.

Looking ahead to 2014: Participation in music and drama is growing at Mohawk and we are very excited about upcoming events. For the latest news and all the links you could possibly need to keep informed, head to our website http://www.mohawkmusicassociation.org/ or come to our monthly meetings - all are welcome!

Don't miss this next "big thing" https://www.facebook.com/events/193355740870119/?ref=22 We are so excited to have Trailer Park back on the Mohawk stage with the student rock band Sonic Toast opening the show.

Wishing you an eventful journey in 2014, filled with joy, laughter, and music.

When you come to the show tonight, stop by to see Sherry Taylor at the MMA table in the lobby. We will be taking orders for "I Support The Arts" t-shirts and sweatshirts. You can order yours then if you have not already done so.

Also, this Thursday, December 12th, at 6:30 pm is the Mohawk Winter Concert. The MMA will be doing refreshments. If you can help at the refreshment table and/or bring us something to sell at the table, you can let Sherry Taylor know when you see her at the show tonight.

If you are unable to come to The Crucible tonight, but still want to help with the refreshments at the Winter Concert on Thursday, please respond by email:  staylor@mohawkmusicassociation.org

Dear Supporters of Mohawk Music,

I woke up really excited this morning. While I’m always passionate about the work I do for the Mohawk Music Association, there's something else that's got me pumped.  On 12.12.13, thousands of area residents are going to show their support for their favorite nonprofit during VALLEY GIVES. On that day, every donation and donor we get will go further to help us claim our share of more than $200,000 in cash awards.

(Mohawk Select Chorus outside at Keene State College where they performed in a Cantata in October 2013)

What really has me excited is that this is going to be a big event, and everyone will be talking about who they’re supporting. Think “American Idol” and we're in the tryouts but need your support to make it to the top.

(Mohawk Middle School Chorus performing "God Bless America" to open the season for the Springfield Falcons hockey team in October 2013)

We need you to help us with these three things:

1) Mark 12.12.13 on your calendar and add this giving link http://valleygives.razoo.com/story/Mohawkmusicassociation

2) Follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MohawkMusicAssociation and Twitter https://twitter.com/MohawkMusicAssn and help build the buzz.

3) Spread the word! Forward this email to your family and friends along with a personal note as to why you believe in our work, and why they should give on 12.12.13.

Help spread the excitement! Tell your friends and family why you think they should help us with their donation. Please be our champion, and help us see it to the top! We can’t wait to celebrate the difference your generosity will make on 12.12.12.

Sherry M Taylor

Mohawk Music Association President

Announcing the Spring Musical: The Wizard of Oz!

Mohawk Trail Regional School’s Theater Department is excited to announce this spring’s musical will be “The Wizard of Oz” and we would like YOU to be in it! We are looking for students who like to sing, dance and act! Additionally, we are looking for parents, teachers, and students who are interested in helping with other creative aspects of the show too!

Auditions for the high school and middle school will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 2:30-5:00 in the auditorium. Students will be asked to prepare one song from the show, read some lines and learn a group dance! It will be easy and fun! Audition packets are available in the Front Office and they include three songs to choose from plus the dialogue that will be used for the audition.

If you are interested in being in the show but are nervous about singing a solo, please come and talk to me! There are so many options from being in the chorus to working behind the scenes. Don’t let stage fright stop you from coming to auditions!

Even if you can’t work on the show, you can still come to the show! Mark these dates in your calendars – Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 7:00 pm AND Sunday, March 9 at 2:00 pm.  This is a very exciting adventure that I hope many of you will be a part of!

Looking forward to working with all of you!

Harlem Superstars
A fun night out! On Thursday, December 5th at 6:30pm the 8th grade class will be hosting the Harlem Superstars comedy basketball team to play against the Mohawk Dream Team.

The Mohawk Dream Team is made up of teachers, administrators (even Mr. Kotright-Clark!), students, alumni, and community members who may or may not have basketball experience but are willing to have fun for the sake of your entertainment.

The Harlem Superstars are "a group of talented basketball players whose main mission is to entertain kids and their families through the game of exciting show-time basketball."

This is a fundraiser for the 8th Grade trip to Washington D.C. and is sure to be lots of fun for the whole family. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Mirick Insurance Agency in Shelburne Falls, Blackmer Insurance Agency on Route 2 in Shelburne, or from 8th grade students who are going on the Washington D.C. trip.

Sonic Toast performs at the Pep Rally in October.
Be sure to get there early (5:45) as Mohawk's all-star student Rock Band, Sonic Toast, will rock the gym in a pregame mini-concert to help energize the crowd in support of our very own Mohawk Dream Team!
