"It’s a great improvisation”

Today's Recorder newspaper features a front page article about Mohawk's new Music Director, Scott Halligan, titled New stage for music and drama at Mohawk. The article discusses Mr. Halligan's music background, current projects, and goals for his students and the music department.

Mr. Halligan's smiling face is on the front page of today's Recorder. This screenshot is from the photo by Paul Franz/Recorder.
Mr. Halligan earned a Master's degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. His primary instrument is the cello, but he also plays 20 other instruments.

Besides rehearsing his ensembles for the December 11 Winter Concert, Mr. Halligan is also working on the upcoming production of The Hobbit with Drama Director Jonathan Diamond.

The article closes with a quote from Mr. Halligan about one of his goals for his students:
“I want them to have realworld skills as musicians . . . . Just to live your life is a great creative endeavor. It’s a great improvisation,” he said

The article may be read on The Recorder's website. Or pick up a copy at your nearest newsstand.

Bakers needed for Mohawk Winter Concert on Tuesday 12/11

It's winter concert time!

The middle and high school music bands and choruses will be entertaining us once again on Tuesday December 11 at 6:30 p.m. And that means that the Mohawk Music Association will be selling refreshments during the concert's intermission to raise funds for the music programs.

We need donations of baked goods (or bought goods) in order to have refreshments to sell.

Please note the following specifics:
  • Items must be individually wrapped
  • Items will sell for $1.00 each
  • Items containing nuts should be marked as such

Can you help out by providing something? Brownies, cookies, cupcakes, slices of banana bread or other quick breads, muffins, individual bags of crackers or chips, juice boxes. . . all sorts of snacks are popular.

We'll be setting up in the foyer at about 5:45 p.m. and goods can be dropped off when you arrive.

Thanks very much for any help you can give.
