The Mohawk Music Association is pleased to announce that we will be presenting an Alumni Concert on March 24, 2012. This is a very special fund-raising event that will bring together many Mohawk music students of years past with all current music students, in a very unique program of musical acts.
The Mohawk Music Association (MMA) is a nonprofit service organization made up of parents and community members invested in supporting the middle school and high school music programs at the Mohawk Trail Regional School. All proceeds of the Alumni Concert will be used by the MMA in its ongoing quest to help the music departments with various needs, assist students in paying for music trips, and provide scholarships for graduating music students.
The purpose of this Alumni Concert is to awaken, inspire and galvanize the Mohawk community of yesterday and today through the arts. For many current students and alumni, the music department plays/has played a vital role throughout their high school experience, leaving lasting impressions. Memories of concert band, jazz band, chorus, select chorus, musicals, music trips and friendships forged will act as a vessel to excite our next generation of musicians. The concert’s eclectic lineup will show current students that music and the arts can continue to influence people’s lives outside of high school, whether it is on a professional or recreational level.
MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH
In addition to being a fund-raiser for the MMA, the Alumni Concert is part of a larger effort to promote music in our schools during “Music in Our Schools” Month. Also, during the earlier part of March, students in the Mohawk music programs will experience the following special workshops, both sponsored by the MMA. All music enthusiasts -- students, parents, community members -- are welcome to attend and observe these workshops. Admission is free.
Vocal Workshop. Wednesday, March 7, 12:00-2:15 p.m. in MTRHS auditorium. Legendary choral composer Alice Parker will be conducting a vocal workshop for students in grades 7-12, guiding them in technique and musicianship as she teaches them some of her compositions. The students will then sing these pieces during the Alumni Concert.
Instrumental Workshop. Wednesday, March 14, 11:30-2:15 p.m. in MTRHS Music Room. Wind ensemble composer and teacher Bob Ellison will be conducting a band workshop for students in grades 7-12. Students will learn two contrasting works, and then perform them during the Alumni Concert.
