New England Brass Band Performance in Shelburne Falls

Mark your calendar! Concert in Shelburne Falls on 11/27

NEBB performing at the 2010 North American Brass Band Association Band Championships
The Mohawk Music Association will be presenting a holiday concert by THE NEW ENGLAND BRASS BAND on Saturday, November 27 in Shelburne Falls. Our very own Mohawk Music Director, Ms. DoraThea Kastanas, plays percussion in the band!

The band is a 30-piece brass and percussion ensemble, adhering to the instrumentation of the “British Brass Band” tradition. Based in the Boston area, NEBB's players are from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine. Last year, they wowed the audience in Memorial Hall with an afternoon of magnificent traditional and holiday music.

This concert is a fundraiser for the Mohawk Music Association, to benefit Mohawk's music department, and a great opportunity for all our students to hear some wonderful music in our venerable Memorial Hall. Our very own MOHAWK DANCE BAND will perform at the start of the concert, too.

Event details:
  • The New England Brass Band (http://www.newenglandbrassband.org/) at Memorial Hall, 51 Bridge St., Shelburne Falls, on Saturday, November 27, at 4:00 p.m.
  • Tickets: $12.00 ($8.00 for students and seniors)
  • The MMA will be selling refreshments (Do you want to donate baked goods? Click here for more information.)
We hope you and your family and friends can attend this wonderful event. Please spread the word widely!

Donations of baked goods for the NEBB concert on 11/27

The Mohawk Music Association will be selling refreshments during the New England Brass Band concert next Saturday, and we're hoping for donations of baked goods to keep our costs down and maximize our profits for the benefit of the music kids.

We realize that next weekend is a very busy and tiring holiday time for everyone, but if you are inclined to contribute baked goods, we'd sure love to have them to sell. Items need to be individually wrapped, please. They will be priced at $1.00 (so 2 small cookies could be wrapped together, for example).

Baked goods can dropped off starting at 2:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall on Saturday, November 27.

Marching Band in Colrain

Mohawk's Marching Band paraded down Main Street in the Coleraine Village Fair on Saturday, September 18. They sounded good and added a festive flair to the largest parade in Colrain in recent memory: two bands (Turners Falls High School led the parade), emergency vehicle from six towns (fire trucks, ambulances, police cruisers, and an ATV rescue vehicle), and the kids on bikes, scooters and skateboards.

Did you try one of Kevin's Taco Potatoes at the Mohawk Music Association's Baked Potato Booth? A large valley-grown baked potato generously topped with taco-seasoned ground turkey, shredded cheddar cheese, salsa, and sour cream. Delicious!

According to an article about Pete and Kelly in the February 26-March 11, 2010 issue of the Shelburne Falls & West County Independent, Pete is sure to play "Walkin' to High Ledges", a song from his 1995 album titled "Catch & Release".  Pete frequently visits relatives in the area and the High Ledges overlook in the Mass Audubon High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary in Shelburne is a favorite place.

In the same article, Kelly Halloran (Mohawk class of 2004) credits her two music teachers at Mohawk, Scott Bryant and Nick Waynelovich for nurturing her musical interests. Kelly will be opening the show at 7:00 pm.

The Mohawk Music Association is providing concessions for the event.
